Mia’s Close Call: A Fish Hook Rescue
When Mia arrived at the clinic, her situation required immediate attention. A fish hook had pierced her lip, and another was embedded in her paw. The Tauranga team, led by Vet Jacqueline, admitted her straight away for sedation to ensure the safest and most comfortable removal process.
Jacqueline began by applying a local anaesthetic to both areas to numb them. Using pin cutters, she expertly trimmed off the barbs of the hooks before gently withdrawing them through their original entry points. This careful technique minimised damage and ensured Mia’s quick recovery.
After the hooks were removed, the team cleaned her wounds and bandaged her paw to protect it. Mia was sent home with antibiotics and pain relief to keep her comfortable. Three days later, she returned for a recheck and was doing fantastic—walking, eating, and wagging her tail like nothing had happened. Her owners were incredibly grateful for the swift and compassionate care that brought their beloved pup back to full health.
