Mixed / Large Animal Veterinarian

Tauranga Veterinary Services Ltd is the only NZVA Best Practice® Accredited Clinic in Tauranga. We service Companion animal, Large animal, Lifestyle and Equine clients with five clinics in Mt Maunganui, Papamoa, Tauranga, Te Puna and Katikati. Our clinics provide:
- In-house point of care diagnostics (CBC, biochemistry and imagist)
- Digital x-ray and dental x-ray
- Ultrasonography
- All within purpose-built facilities
We also accept a variety of medical and surgical referrals from other practices, such as radioactive iodine treatment. We have access to CT, MRI services and referral imaging interpretation.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and friendly professional Mixed Animal/Large Animal Veterinarian to join our practice. This position is Full-Time, with a shared on call roster amongst a large team of Mixed Animal Veterinarians.
A dedicated mentor with over 30 years’ experience in production, mixed and companion animal medicine. Supported by our practice mental health and wellbeing programmes, social club, and fantastic team members who love to have fun whilst practicing at a high standard.
The successful applicant will have;
- General large animal medicine skills suitable for small farms and lifestyle animals.
- Excellent general small animal surgical and medical skills
- Ideally two years clinical experience (all applicants considered)
- Be enthusiastic and passionate about the veterinary profession.

Clinical Veterinary Nurse Te Puna
Tauranga Veterinary Services Ltd. is seeking a dedicated Clinical Veterinary Nurse to join our growing practice in the heart of Tauranga, Bay of Plenty. As a Clinical Veterinary Nurse, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our veterinary team in delivering high-quality veterinary services.
What you’ll be doing
- Assisting veterinarians during examinations, procedures, and surgeries
- Administering medications, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian
- Performing laboratory tests, sample collection, and analysis
- Maintaining accurate medical records and patient files
- Providing exceptional customer service and client education
- Ensuring the cleanliness and organisation of the veterinary facility
- Supporting the overall operations of the veterinary practice
What we’re looking for
- Formal qualifications as a Veterinary Nurse or Veterinary Technician
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in a veterinary clinical setting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with clients and the veterinary team
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently and accurately
- A genuine passion for animal welfare and a commitment to providing the BestCare
- Fulltime availability, including evenings on call and a scheduled weekend roster

Locum Veterinarian
We’re a well-established mixed animal clinic with a thriving companion animal department. On most days you’ll be working alongside 1-2 small or mixed animal veterinarians and a skilled, supportive nursing team. The wider team includes several highly experienced clinicians, including vets with advanced postgraduate qualifications.
Our clinic manages a broad range of cases internally — from routine consultations and surgeries through to complex medical investigations and advanced soft tissue procedures. We also work closely with referral services, providing exposure to more advanced cases while still maintaining the collaborative feel of a busy GP-style practice.
Our purpose-built facilities include digital and dental radiography, ultrasound, in-house laboratory diagnostics, and comprehensive patient monitoring. We place a strong emphasis on mentorship, continuing education and professional growth, and our team regularly supports and mentors new graduates.
Locum opportunity
- Ideal start July 2026
- Companion/Mixed Veterinarian
- In clinic 2-4 weekdays negotiable

About you
BVSc (or equivalent) and eligible for registration with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand
Comfortable with general medicine, routine surgical procedures.
