It’s dental time at Tauranga Vets. We want to get your Pets Dental Health in tip top shape and get their mouth looking and smelling great.
Once your pet’s teeth are cleaned, there is a lot at home that can be done to improve your pet’s dental health. Without regular cleaning, plaque and bacteria build up on teeth and gums causing bad breath. If not removed this plaque turns into tartar leading to more serious dental disease.
Prevention is better than cure for Dental Health!
1: Dental food is an easy way to ensure you pet is getting good quality nutrition that is also has proven efficacy to help clean the teeth as they bite and chew. Both Hills t/d and Royal Canin dental foods provide excellent preventative qualities.
2: Brushing your pet’s teeth with pet toothpaste is an effective way of preventing plaque build-up. Getting them used to brushing takes time and patience. Not all pets will tolerate brushing so it is best to start when they are young. It is possible to teach older pet’s new tricks, we have leaflets to show you how.
3: Oravet dental chews are a new product that are an easy and tasty way to provide dental care at home for dogs. Oravet is clinically proven to reduce bad breath and dental disease. They work by scrubbing away the plaque and tartar as the dog chews. Oravet also contains delmopinol (used in human mouth wash) which is released when the dog chews coating the teeth in a film that forms a barrier against the bacteria that lead to plaque formation and bad breath. Dogs love the taste so they make a perfect treat as well.
A healthy mouth is one of the most important things you can do to ensure good overall health for your pet.
