Remi’s Emergency Surgery and Happy Recovery

Remi came to see us after being flat, lethargic, and off her food for several days, before suddenly deteriorating and needing an urgent consult on Sunday morning.

On examination, fluid was detected in her abdomen. After analysing the fluid, our team, led by Vet Dr Max Clout, confirmed a serious and life-threatening condition — a ruptured gall bladder causing widespread infection (peritonitis).

Remi was immediately stabilised and taken straight to surgery. During the operation, a ruptured gall bladder and significant infection throughout the abdomen were confirmed. Her gall bladder was successfully removed, her abdomen thoroughly flushed, and a drain was placed to help manage ongoing inflammation and infection.

Following surgery, Remi remained in the hospital for intensive care and monitoring. Over the next five days, she showed steady improvement, turning an important corner in her recovery. Once stable, her abdominal drain was removed, and she was able to head home on Friday.

We’re delighted to report that Remi returned for her 10-day recheck bright, comfortable, and back to good health.

Cases like Remi’s highlight the importance of early intervention, rapid diagnosis, and a dedicated veterinary team working together to achieve the best possible outcome. We’re so proud of Remi and honoured to have been part of her journey back to health

I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to the incredible team at Tauranga Vets, and especially to Max, who performed Remi’s surgery after her gallbladder ruptured. It was a very uncertain and emotional time, and I was so grateful for the clear, calm information provided around the risks and treatment options.

A big thank you as well to the amazing vet nurses. To Lia and everyone who went above and beyond. The team was kind, honest, and compassionate, not only with Remi but also with me.

I’m incredibly thankful for the care Remi received and for everything you did to help save her! I couldn’t recommend Tauranga Vets highly enough.

Thank you again for everything
