Dushi’s Second Chance After a Cancer Scare

Dushi was originally given a heartbreaking diagnosis. She had a large tumour on her liver, and her previous vet believed the cancer had already spread.

Her owners were told there wasn’t much that could be done. But they weren’t ready to give up, and brought Dushi to Tauranga Vets for another opinion.

After reviewing her case and performing a second ultrasound, the Tauranga Vets team saw signs that gave them more hope. While the situation was still serious, the team believed there was a real chance for Dushi. Her owners agreed to move forward, and she was quickly prepared for surgery.

Vet – Dr Max Clout performed the operation and successfully removed an entire liver lobe that contained a 10cm tumour. He also removed her spleen and took biopsies from other parts of her liver to check for signs of spread. The results confirmed that the cancer had not spread further.

Dushi made an incredible recovery. Just days after surgery, she was up and about, showing her usual personality. Now, four months later, she is doing exceptionally well and enjoying life with her family.
