Dushi’s Recovery After a Cruciate Ligament Injury
This time, Dushi came to see us after injuring her back leg while running through the sand dunes. After a thorough examination at our Mount clinic, Vet Anna was concerned that she may have injured her cranial cruciate ligament (CCL). She recommended further investigation with X-rays and an assessment by our orthopaedic vet Max at the Tauranga clinic.
Unfortunately, the X-rays and examination confirmed that Dushi had ruptured her CCL.
Her owners decided to proceed with surgical repair, with Max performing a procedure called a Lateral Fabella Tie. This surgical technique is used to stabilise the knee following a CCL rupture. A strong suture is placed around structures on the outside of the knee to help replicate the function of the damaged ligament. This provides stability while the knee heals and allows Dushi to gradually return to normal activity.
Max proceeded with the surgery, and everything went smoothly. During the procedure, it was confirmed that Dushi’s CCL was completely ruptured.
We’re very happy to report that Dushi has made a great recovery so far. She is currently following a strict rest and rehabilitation plan to give her knee the best possible chance to heal properly.
It’s always wonderful to see our regular patients getting back on their feet, and we’re looking forward to seeing Dushi continue to make progress.
