Boris’s Recovery from Severe Anaemia

Boris arrived at our Mount Maunganui clinic seriously unwell. With help from a very special donor cat, he’s now doing well.

Five-year-old Boris hadn’t eaten for three days and was unusually lethargic when he came to see us. His gums and other mucous membranes were pale and yellow, so we ran blood tests. These showed that Boris was severely anaemic, and he was diagnosed with immune-mediated haemolytic anaemia (IMHA).

Boris was hospitalised, but his red blood cell levels continued to fall. He needed a blood transfusion, and our brave donor cat Max came to his aid. Thankfully, Max and Boris were a blood type match.

We’re delighted to report that Boris is doing very well. His red blood cell levels continue to climb, and we’re grateful to Max for helping him through such a difficult time.
