Betty’s Triumph Over Lymphoma: A Journey to Remission
In January 2023, Betty visited the Te Puna branch with a concerning lump in her neck. Dr. Max and the team swiftly performed biopsies and delivered the diagnosis—Lymphoma, a type of cancer affecting the lymphatic system. Betty’s family faced a difficult decision, but with the compassionate care of Melani, Papamoa’s resident chemotherapy expert, they felt supported throughout the process.
Betty began her chemotherapy treatment in February, with Melani overseeing her care each step of the way. Throughout the months of treatment, the team ensured Betty’s comfort, allowing her to live her life to the fullest while receiving care. By August, Betty had completed her chemotherapy, and today, one year later, she remains in remission—healthy, happy, and full of energy.
Betty even had her own “last day of chemo” celebration at the clinic, marking a milestone in her journey back to health. Now, at 10 years old, she’s enjoying life at home with all the vitality of a dog half her age.
“We can’t say enough about the amazing care and love that Melani and the team at Papamoa Vets gave to Betty. She had a rapidly developing situation and Melani was able to respond quickly. She took the time to explain all our options and potential outcomes thoroughly, and there was never any pressure to go any further with each treatment cycle than we (or Betty) wanted to. Her care was second to none, both in the clinic and checking in with us after each visit.
Betty responded super well, the treatment took effect quickly and whilst she had lethargic days she was largely her good old self most of the time. It’s been a year since her last cycle and we have a precious 10 year old girl, happy, healthy and with the energy of a dog half her age!”
