Bentley’s Eye Ulcer: A Painful Problem with a Happy Ending
Bentley was first brought into the Katikati clinic with a sore, red, and weeping eye. After a thorough examination and staining of the eye with fluorescein, vet Len identified the source of Bentley’s discomfort—an ulcer on his right eye, a condition that can be extremely painful.
Bentley was immediately put on pain relief and eye ointment, but after two follow-up checks, it became apparent that the ulcer wasn’t healing as expected. Len recommended a third eyelid flap procedure to give the eye the extra protection it needed to heal.
For 13 days, Bentley bravely endured having his third eyelid stitched up, meaning he only had vision in one eye during that time. When the stitches were removed on day 13, the results were clear—the ulcer was completely gone, and the fluorescein stain no longer showed any sign of damage.
Bentley made a full recovery and is back to enjoying life with full vision, thanks to the diligent care of the team at Katikati.
